Young Lives vs Cancer help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Make a donation and show your support today.

  • £15 could go towards a grant to cover travel costs for long journeys to live saving treatment
  • £26 could pay for an hour with a Young Lives vs Cancer Specialist Social Worker. They help families understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer.
  • £70 could pay for a night in a Young Lives vs Cancer Homes from Home, a free place for families to stay close to specialist hospitals when their child is going through treatment, keeping families together

Days 29–31: The Final Stretch 🎉🚶‍♂️

Monday 1st Sep
Day 29: We hiked the Mersea coastal path all the way to the museum – checking out fossils and artefacts pulled straight from the same muddy flats we’d been trudging through! Reward = tea & cake 🍰 before braving the weather back home.

Day 30: The boys took on the obstacles at Ultimate Ninja UK and gave it everything they had 💪 (I stayed safely on the sidelines in my sandals – no ninja moves from me this time 😉).

Day 31: Back from camping, we abandoned the mountain of washing, ignored our exhaustion, and marched to the park – with Ben and Max even squeezing in an extra mile on their scooters 🛴💪.

✨ Challenge complete! ✨
31 days, 31 miles (and often more) – rain or shine, dinosaurs or ninjas – they’ve smashed it. Some days were tougher than others, but every single step was worth it. They’re so proud (and so am I!) to have raised money for Young Lives vs Cancer 💜

A huge thank you again to everyone who’s supported, donated, and cheered them on – you’ve kept the little legs moving all month long 🙌

Proof that small steps make a big difference. 💜👣

Day 28 update

Thursday 28th Aug
Day 28 update 🚶‍♂️🦖🌊
The last 5 miles have been full of adventure! We’ve:

Hunted dinosaurs in the pitch black (spoiler: we survived 🦖😂).

Walked to watch the pier-to-pier swimmers and bravely declared “maybe next year” (watch this space 👀🏊‍♀️).

Kicked off our camping trip with seaside strolls – 1 mile on West Mersea Beach, 1 mile on East Mersea Beach, and 1 mile exploring Cudmore Grove Nature Reserve (yes, we kept going even when the rain tried to stop us ☔💪).

Only a few days left – the kids are bossing it for Young Lives vs Cancer 💜

P.S. Today’s adventure: a walk along the Mersea coast, perfectly timed with the tides so we can paddleboard in a secret pool left behind when the sea goes out 🌊🏄‍♂️.

Day 23 update

Saturday 23rd Aug
So… turns out I blinked and forgot to update you since Day 8 🙈 but don’t worry — the boys haven’t been slacking! Here’s a whistle-stop tour of the last couple of weeks:

Crabbing at Lake Lothing (1 crab in 4 hours… definitely not a career path).

Beach days → walked a mile, then dug a hole so deep I nearly lost Max.

Woodland rambles → mostly rambling about who got the last snack.

Dinosaurs, Gulliver’s, and Colchester Castle all explored on foot.

Leo tried to convince me tubing at the ski slopes counted as his mile… spoiler: it didn’t.

Carnival route walked + carnival watched for the first time.

Walked to the pool, survived 32 lengths while clinging to the inflatable obstacle course like shipwreck survivors, then walked home.

Leo hit Pleasure Beach, while Ben & Max did Jimmy’s Farm… and met polar bears (in Suffolk, who knew?!).

23 days in, and they’ve clocked every single mile (and then some) — still going strong for Young Lives vs Cancer 💜

Thank you so much to everyone cheering them on — at this rate they’ll have calves of steel (or at least aluminium!) by September 💪

Day 8 update

Friday 8th Aug
It's been a busy few days, with little legs working hard!
The challenge on day 4 was a mile in the life of a bug (at the bug parc!) we walked like the leaf cutter ants, peddled go karts with grasshopper legs, tried to fly like a butterfly (by launching from the jumping pillow) the step count was high on all accounts, even from the big one who joined in but in a much more grown up way!
Day 5 was a big one! 19,000 steps by the end of the day after a large loop of strumpshaw Fen. 3 tired boys challenge most certainly achieved!
Day 6 - Daily mile achieved by Max by 10am thanks to sports camp, Ben's was a little later in the day with sports camp over lunch time and Leo did his mile through the woods with a friend ☺️
Day 7 - our mile today was a walk through Diss, round the mere and through the town. Peaceful and pretty!
Day 8 - It has been an all activity day for Max and Ben beginning with 0.5miles on the scooters, continuing with 0.25 miles in the swimming pool (it doesn't sound a lot but this is actually 27 lengths of the learner pool at the marina centre) and the last quarter of a mile was a short walk in the blazing sun which took the last morsels of energy! It's quiet here tonight.
Leo just managed the 2500 steps to a friend's house! 🤣 But we will give his extra kudos as he did have his sleepover bag on his back (otherwise known as a 65l litre hiking backpack!! Leo doesn't do packing light!
So 8 days in, still going strong. The car has now given up the ghost so the rest of this challenge should be easy!! 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks again for everyone's support the boys are thrilled to have raised such a lot of money for such a great cause!! ❤️

Day 3 update

Sunday 3rd Aug
So far so good, I can only update the activity log using a drop down menu so I'll blog every few days with a bit more detail.
Day 1 Ben and Max rode scooters for a mile! And Leo walked for a mile but also climbed several trees - Bonus points for height!!
Day 2 motivated by a treat in the cafe; a walking mile complete... Just! 🤣
Day 3 best one so far, 2.2 miles complete in a walk to Carlton Marshes and back again.

Donations are already at £80!!! Amazing. Thanks for all the support to an amazing cause ☺️
