Young Lives vs Cancer help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Make a donation and show your support today.

  • £15 could go towards a grant to cover travel costs for long journeys to live saving treatment
  • £26 could pay for an hour with a Young Lives vs Cancer Specialist Social Worker. They help families understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer.
  • £70 could pay for a night in a Young Lives vs Cancer Homes from Home, a free place for families to stay close to specialist hospitals when their child is going through treatment, keeping families together

Join me in supporting a good cause, your contribution will make a big impact, whether you donate £5 or £500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support.

Mile 31 .. the Final one!

Sunday 31st Aug
31 days of activity throughout August, £1,019 raised, lots of lovely memories and good feelings about what Mila has achieved. We finished it off with our classic 1-mile walk along the blackberry lanes of Harby.

The charity exceeded its target too with £257,676 raised to help support young people and their families going through the toughest of times.

Thank you Michelle for being one of our final donors and thank you to everyone else who had donated, supported and tolerated us over the last month.

Mile 30

Sunday 31st Aug
Penultimate day of the challenge and I delegated to the Bryans who kindly walked Mila to the park before I marched her round the supermarket!

Still, another 3.17 miles!

Mile 29

Saturday 30th Aug
Day 29! Final straight! Today’s theme is heroes🦸‍♀️

Thank you Rita for being our most recent donor - edging ever closer to our target. Just 2 more days and £34 to go!!

Mile 28

Saturday 30th Aug
Day 28 and we’re grateful for the walk to and from school each day for getting our miles in.

Thanks to Hugh and Debs for their recent donations which takes Mila even closer to her £1,000 fundraising target!

Mile 27

Saturday 30th Aug
A long walk back from school and another 2.92 miles done today ☑️

Mile 26

Saturday 30th Aug
Day 26 - also our back to school day so the walk to / from and around the block a bit helped get us to 3.2 miles today!

We’re at £924 - just £76 to go to hit Mila’s fundraising target 🙏

Mile 25

Monday 25th Aug
Day 25 - BHM walk courtesy and thanks to the lovely people at Belvoir Castle who have featured Mila on their social media - a blissfully sunny walk through the beautiful gardens and woodland with an ice pop break and cool down in the Moss House, followed by some playground fun for the kids and a farm shop stop for the adults!

It’s the final week of the Kid's Summer Challenge 2025 for Young Lives vs Cancer and we’re still hoping to reach Mila’s goal of raising £1,000. Thanks again to everyone who has already donated; we’ve been blown away by your collective generosity. For anyone who still wants to support this fantastic cause, you can donate here:

Mile 24

Monday 25th Aug
Day 24 - the theme is holiday and we’re enjoying the last couple of days of it here in Leicestershire. Off to a local music festival and then a BBQ with friends.

Mile 23

Monday 25th Aug
Day 23 - the theme is rainbows - an afternoon stroll to enjoy an end of summer party with friends and then an early evening walk home. No actual rainbows but Mila just happened to be wearing one!

Mile 22

Monday 25th Aug
Day 22! 1.27 miles of walking recorded but that doesn’t account for the 3-4 hours spent in the swimming pool!

Thank you Richard, Jenny and Jonathan for the generous donation taking Mila to a nice round £900 raised! Incredible!

Mile 21

Monday 25th Aug
Day 21 - 4.65 miles done, some on foot, some in the water and some by horse (just for a change). The sun eventually came out to fit today‘s theme.

Thank you to Lyn Hastings - a genuinely unexpected and unknown benefactor who has given generously to support Mila and this great cause.

Mile 20

Thursday 21st Aug
Day 20 already! A very active day and another 4.08 miles done.

Mile 17

Thursday 21st Aug
Day 17 - all smiles!

An active day of walking, playing, swimming and more playing! 4.68 miles!

Mile 16

Thursday 21st Aug
Day 16 - a late evening stroll before dinner. Total distance today was 3.49 miles

Thank you Doug P and fam and Tom for your recent donations - taking us to an incredible £819!

Mile 15

Thursday 21st Aug
Day 15 - stripes! 🦓

A quick 1 mile stomp along the lanes and fields.

Thank you to our most recent donors: Andy and Rosemary and Justine. You’ve taken us to £743!

Mile 14

Thursday 21st Aug
Day 14 (off with the kids so more time for this than usual!) - we walked another 2.5 miles with the occasional stop at one of today’s theme ‘park benches’

We’re thrilled to have raised £716 already to help children, young people and their families facing cancer.

Mile 13

Wednesday 13th Aug
We waited until almost bedtime for our walk today because it was so hot - it was still 27 degrees at 7:30pm! The theme today was lights so it was nice to walk in the early evening light. We took our flashing festival wands out to light us up! A few obligatory blackberries foraged and an ice pop helped to sustain us to complete a neat mile along with challenges to skip, jump, walk backwards, lunge and side step our way back home.

Mile 12

Wednesday 13th Aug
I went to Stathern for a walk with my dad and brother which, of course, involved a trip to the park! It was a super hot day but I still managed almost 3 miles. Theme today was hearts which we eat in candy form for an energy boost.

Mile 11

Monday 11th Aug
Post-lunch walk through the church to the park with ice pops. Laurence and I played with friends and had a blast. We walked back and overall did just over 2 miles. The theme was street names.

Mile 10

Monday 11th Aug
We went to Nottingham for the day. We walked around a few shops and then went up to the castle to play in the park and to have lunch. I walked 6 miles in total and had so much fun! The theme was landmarks.

Mile 9

Monday 11th Aug
I walked with mum and Laurence around the village, the long way to the park, and then met Willow for a play. It was the first time I’d seen her since the end of term! We had lots of fun. We walked home together and I went to the orchard and helped her pick some apples with her mum.

Mile 8

Friday 8th Aug
Sunny day today, so different to yesterday, so mum and I stretched our legs with a longer walk around the village and down the canal. We stopped at the park and saw lots of people along the way. Jelly babies kept me going!
Theme: cats

Mile 7

Friday 8th Aug
Rainy day today but rather than put it off to tomorrow I decided to do my walk indoors! It was a bit tedious but I was glad I did it.

Mile 6

Wednesday 6th Aug
Back down Green Lane (my favourite walk), piggy backing my brother on the way, and with a stop off at the community orchard for a healthy snack and some fruit for home.
Theme: Animals

Mile 5

Tuesday 5th Aug
Walked around Birmingham for today‘s city theme to get to the Lego Discovery Centre. Had a great time there with Dad and Laurence.
Theme: City

Mile 4

Monday 4th Aug
Reversed yesterdays walk for more blackberries - Laurence came too which meant mum also discovered a neat trick for getting out blackberry stains! I’m really enjoying these walks and would do this one every day!
Theme: Flowers

Mile 3

Sunday 3rd Aug
Green lane circular with early blackberry bonus

Mile 2

Saturday 2nd Aug
Scooted round the village - hot hot hot

Mile 1

Friday 1st Aug
First mile done with a lovely evening walk/run round the village with mum. I’m looking forward to planning more routes and different ways to walk each of my miles.

Event Pack received!

Saturday 5th Jul
