Hair-Raiser Challenge - September 2024

I'm taking on the Hair-Raiser Challenge for Young Lives vs Cancer.

Many of you are aware that at only 16 months old, my Gorgeous Little Man, Sam was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma which is a very aggressive cancer affecting mainly the under 5's. He was the bravest little soldier I've ever known but devastatingly he passed at 3 years and 10 days old. During that time and since,  the little friends that Sam and Emily got to know on the ward & in the playrooms have also lost their lives. This charity continues to support the whole family for a while after.

This September, I'm taking on the Hair-Raiser Challenge during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. I am joining hundreds of others who are shaving, cutting, dying or styling their hair for Young Lives vs Cancer. I have given my hairdresser the challenge of doing whatever she fancies doing to my hair - involving colours/style. The only restrictions I've set is that I'm not having my head shaved and also pointed out that the Childhood cancer ribbon is gold NOT yellow!! I'm also having my nails done and given them free rein too. I have given them photos of the ribbon, the Young lives vs cancer and the neuroblastoma merchandise as possible reference.

We held a fundraising event in aid of Young lives vs cancer (then known as Clic Sargeant) and The Rainbow Trust in Bishops Waltham in 2017 where we strung Sam's Beads of Courage all the way around the hall - there were so many, he had been so courageous.

A few words from the charity:-

When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.

Young Lives vs Cancer, help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer.

Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate £5 or £500. Every little bit helps.

Together, we can raise awareness and funds to support children and young people with cancer.

Thank you for your support.

Thank you to everyone who has read my post. I’ve had my nails done & what an amazing job they did! I have the blue/gold colours of the Neuroblastoma UK colours and of course blue being Sammy’s favourite colour. The pièce de résistance - the childhood cancer gold ribbon on my ring fingers. Please take a look at the attached video on my main facebook page, I love them 😍 x
