We're taking on the Kid's Summer Challenge for Young Lives vs Cancer.

The Challenge

We are joining thousands of children taking on the Kid's Summer Challenge for Young Lives vs Cancer this Summer.  The challenge is simple - complete 1 mile a day, every day for 31 days in August, in whatever way we want! We've chosen to run, walk, skip, swim, wheel and scoot, to cover the distance.  


The reason why

Lilian: "I first learnt about cancer from Mummy. Her best friend died of cancer at 15 years old. I want to raise money to help children, who are living with cancer, and their families".

Young Lives vs Cancer help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer.

If you'd like to join us in supporting a good cause, then your contribution will make a huge impact, whether you donate £5 or £500 - every little bit helps. Make a donation and show your support today. 

  • £15 could go towards a grant to cover travel costs for long journeys to live saving treatment 
  • £26 could pay for an hour with a Young Lives vs Cancer Specialist Social Worker. They help families understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer. 
  • £70 could pay for a night in a Young Lives vs Cancer Homes from Home, a free place for families to stay close to specialist hospitals when their child is going through treatment, keeping families together

She's done it!

35 days ago, Lilian asked about my best friend who died from cancer at a young age. After talking about my friend, Lilian wanted to learn more about cancer - what is was like. To help her understand more we went to the CLIC Sargent [now Young Lives vs Cancer] website. It was here that Lilian discovered the harsh reality of what cancer means and how it effects children and their families. The Kids Summer Challenge caught her eye and she asked if she could take part - to help raise money for children and their families. 

Today, with the help of our wonderful friends and family [plus some brilliant Junior Parkrun volunteers], Lilian was able to accomplish what she set out to do. Thank you to everyone that supported her - we are so proud of her!!

Day 31 - Ockwells Junior Parkrun

Sunday 31st Aug
Lilian's final mile was undertaken at Ockwells Junior Parkrun, where she received her 'marathon band' for completing 21 runs!! What a way to complete 31 miles in 31 days!

Day 24 - Carmarthen Junior Parkrun

Sunday 31st Aug
Another new setting and a fabulous run. The location of the Carmarthen parkrun was more challenging than previous runs - with an undulating course that made for a whole new experience. A huge thank you to the volunteers, marshals and run director!!

Day 15-23 - Pembrokeshire

Whilst in Pembrokeshire, Lilian decided to undertake her daily mile in a number of ways. Some days she swam, some she cycled and others she walked or ran 😊

Day 11 - 🚲🚲🚲

Monday 11th Aug
Lilian was incredibly proud of herself today - a really beautiful thing to get to witness. 
1) She completed her first solo mile on her bike.
2) She confidently and articulately spoke to a friend about her daily mile, why she was doing it and the importance of it.

Day 10 - Houghton Hall Juniors

Monday 11th Aug
We were fortunate enough to participate in the Houghton Hall Junior Parkrun day. We had a great time, in another beautiful location! Thank you to the course organisers, marshalls and those cheering on the children!!

Day 9 - She's been working hard

Monday 11th Aug
Lilian has been committed to completing her daily mile by bike and has been practicing everyday - she's almost there :)

Day 3 - Newport Junior Parkrun

Sunday 3rd Aug
Lilian completed her daily mile whilst participating in the Newport Junior Parkrun, located beside the historic Tredegar House. This was a new location for her - it was beautiful! Thank you to all the course marshals, volunteers and well wishers!
