Young Lives vs Cancer help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Make a donation and show your support today.

  • £15 could go towards a grant to cover travel costs for long journeys to live saving treatment
  • £26 could pay for an hour with a Young Lives vs Cancer Specialist Social Worker. They help families understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer.
  • £70 could pay for a night in a Young Lives vs Cancer Homes from Home, a free place for families to stay close to specialist hospitals when their child is going through treatment, keeping families together

My Updates

Day 28-31

Thursday 4th Sep
Despite as much walking and football as we could fit in, the rain meant we couldn't go out quite enough to make 100 miles. The boys did a great job though and we're really pleased with their mileage. Thank you very much to everyone who has sponsored the boys!

Day 27

Wednesday 27th Aug
Rowan did 5 hours of football today and has a great time. Both boys walked several miles to and from football and they had a play in the park.

Day 25 and 26

Tuesday 26th Aug
Day 25 we spent about 5 hours gardening and then went off to play football. Day 26 the boys went scooting and then played football.

Day 21-24

Sunday 24th Aug
Day 21 after swimming we went to football golf which involved a whole lot of walking. Day 22 another 3 hours of tennis. Day 23 it was football at the park, plus a run. Day 24 we walked 4 miles to a park where the boys played football and did some climbing.

Day 16-20

Wednesday 20th Aug
We've got a lot of mileage in over the last several days, out on walks and runs, in beaches and parks. Rowan has also been doing swimming every day this week (though not going to lie, the mileage on that is not high) and he's also back to tennis for 3 hours today. The recorded mileage on the page is only things I do with them (because of the Strava GPS on my phone) so their true mileage day to day is a lot higher, so they're doing really well.

Day 15

Friday 15th Aug
Had a busy day walking about in Truro and Falmouth today, as well as some football and running, nearly 5 miles in all.

Day 13 and 14

Thursday 14th Aug
Managed 1.5 miles playing football on day 13 and day 14 the boys have been watering plants, damming rivers at the beach and Z has been playing ball games and doing the obstacle course in the nursery garden.

Day 12

Tuesday 12th Aug
Went on a 1.5 mile adventure walk, which started well as we fed 7 ducklings and ended poorly as Zander decided to walk into a barbed wire fence, but was reasonably fun in between!

Day 11

Monday 11th Aug
Rowan had 3 hours of tennis in the morning and an hour of gymnastics this evening. The boys played tennis in the park in between, so plenty of mileage today, though not much of it recorded as I'm not giving Rowan my phone to record it on Strava!

Day 8, 9 and 10

Monday 11th Aug
Home from London and the boys have spent time at the beach, parks, playing football and tennis to get their miles in.

Day 6 and 7

Friday 8th Aug
The boys ran errands with Grandad, had water fights, ran around the park with their friend and Rowan did his 2nd proper Taekwon-do class. Rowan did some great sparring and had a lovely time training with his friend.

Day 5

Tuesday 5th Aug
We walked 6 miles around Camden Market area today and Rowan is going to his first proper Taekwon-do lesson at Pantera tonight 🥊

Day 4, museums

Monday 4th Aug

Day 3 and 4

Monday 4th Aug
Did a 1.5 mile walk on day 3, exploring some London suburbs..
Day 4 we walked over 7 miles! We visited the Science Museum and Natural History Museum. I always wondered why museum visits were so knackering and now I know as I had Strava on to see how much we actually walk 🫠

Day 2 - Busy day

Saturday 2nd Aug
After a long car trip the boys were ready to move. They helped Granny with her gardening, taught Grandad to play tennis, played some catch ball and then we went for a walk down to the park to play more tennis and have a run around. Also got Strava working so it'll automatically record our distances.

Day 1

Friday 1st Aug
Rowan is starting day 1 of the challenge with 3 hours of tennis.

Hello!

Friday 4th Jul
The challenge is to walk/run/scoot/whatever a mile every day in August and the boys are looking forward to it! I've been planning some local routes from our house, but we'll also be exploring the parks in London, the coast paths and woods and hopefully find some nice new places.
