31 days, 31 walks

Tuesday 3rd Sep
The 31st day in August and the 31st and final walk of our ‘Team Jackson Summer 2024 Fundraiser Challenge’ for Young Lives vs Cancer. Alfred and Trixie wanted to go out on one of their favourite Disley adventures now that we’re back home, so we headed into Lyme Park and walked almost 5.5 miles, making our total distance covered just under 64 miles!!! Not only have we hopefully raised awareness of and funds for an amazing charity but we have really cherished the time spent together as a family each day. As a family that have spent more than our fair share of time in hospitals, due to our own family’s health problems, we know just what an overwhelming experience even one appointment can be for a child and their family. The thoughts of the challenges faced by families with a child who needs months, years and even a lifetime of appointments, tests, treatments etc. are just unimaginable and unbearable to even try to comprehend. Charities, such as ‘Young Lives Vs Cancer’, provide such important support for families so that they can focus on the most important thing, their child.

7 days, 7 walks to go!

Sunday 25th Aug

Today marks one week remaining of our ‘Team Jackson Summer Fundraising Challenge’. Yesterday we passed our fundraising target of £200 thanks to another generous local who sponsored us £1 for each of the days in the August challenge! As I have mentioned before, getting this Team out through the door is not an easy thing at all. Today Alfred has had a very tough day with his Autism, ADHD and Anxiety as thoughts of back-to-school become increasingly overwhelming. This in turn made for a tricky day for all of us. I have also had a rough one with an exacerbation of my cognitive difficulties and chronic fatigue after a busy day yesterday. Despite this, we didn’t want to let ourselves down and got out for yet another wonderful walk together this evening. We chatted, we joked, we laughed, we explored, we made memories. Tonight we added up the data from our walks so far and are so excited that rather than just achieving the 1 mile a day, we have in fact walked just under 50 miles over the 24 walks!!

This evening our thoughts turn yet again to those families who are experiencing the turmoil of having a very unwell child and we couldn’t feel more grateful that our own family members are as healthy as we are. We hope to continue collecting donations for this amazing charity as they support so many families going through a most terrible time. We intend to really push ourselves physically over this last week and hope to finish next Saturday with one of our favourite walks back home.

13 down, 18 to go!!!

Wednesday 14th Aug
Team Jackson are really enjoying their chosen fundraiser for this summer. We have enjoyed going out for our daily mile, have discovered lots of new walks and have loved the fresh air and nature in our current surroundings.

1st day, 1st mile!

Thursday 1st Aug
And we’re off! We tried to get out before it got too hot but it was very warm. We called at the local geo-cach and Trixie had a nasty nettle attack…but we did it!

Excited to get started tomorrow!

Our fundraising pack has arrived just in time and we are excited to get started tomorrow!!

Team Jackson Summer Fundraiser 2024 - Young Lives Vs Cancer

Monday 29th Jul
This summer, Team Jackson have chosen ‘Young Lives Vs Cancer’ as the charity that we are raising funds for. It’s an incredible charity that makes a huge difference to the lives of young people affected by Cancer. As a family, we are going to be taking part in the ‘1 mile a day, every day for 31 days in August’ Challenge! If you feel able to make a donation, that would be wonderful.
