We're taking on the Kid's Summer Challenge for Young Lives vs Cancer.
The reason Rex is supporting this amazing charity is because our friend’s daughter Tilly has recently been diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukemia secondary (AMLS).
Unfortunately, this is Tilly’s second experience of cancer. Tilly was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in October 2023. Following a year of chemotherapy and surgery, Tilly went into remission at the age of 4 in September 2024.
Following a very tough and intense year, the family went on a celebratory holiday to the Maldives at Easter. A couple of days into the holiday, Tilly became extremely unwell with sepsis which then turned into DIC (where the body produces little clots which can cause organ failure). Unfortunately the Maldives was not equipped to deal with her medical needs and Tilly was medically transported to Abu Dhabi, remaining there for 4 days before being medically transported back to Southampton and into Southampton General where she was diagnosed with AMLS.
Tilly is such a strong and determined little girl and was able to start school as planned last September. Now having just settled into school life, she faces a significant amount of time out of school and away from friends. Tilly has a journey ahead of her and is currently awaiting a stem cell transfer in Great Ormand Street in London.
Over the course of the year, Tilly and her family have been supported by some fantastic charities including the Piam Brown Ward Fund at Southampton General Hospital and Abbie’s Heroes.
And now Young Lives vs Cancer are supporting them by providing them with accommodation in a Young Lives vs Cancer home close to the hospitals where Tilly’s Dad and brother can stay whilst Tilly is going through her treatment meaning that the family can stay together.
By donating, you will be supporting a fantastic charity of whom my friends are extreme grateful for.
Want to join us in supporting a good cause? We're taking on the Kid's Summer Challenge for Young Lives vs Cancer and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate £5 or £500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support.
Young Lives vs Cancer help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Make a donation and show your support today.
- £15 could go towards a grant to cover travel costs for long journeys to live saving treatment
- £26 could pay for an hour with a Young Lives vs Cancer Specialist Social Worker. They help families understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer.
- £70 could pay for a night in a Young Lives vs Cancer Homes from Home, a free place for families to stay close to specialist hospitals when their child is going through treatment, keeping families together
Join me in supporting a good cause, your contribution will make a big impact, whether you donate £5 or £500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support.
