London Adventure: 7.5 Miles of Fun, History, and Chocolate Strawberries!

Wednesday 6th Aug
Wow, what a day! On August 6th, we decided to conquer London — well, technically, walk it — and ended up covering a whopping 7.5 miles of pure adventure. And trust me, it was packed with fun, history, and just a dash of chocolate-strawberry goodness. 🍓

We kicked off our day hopping on a train to London Bridge, and lucky us — the sun was shining brighter than ever! ☀️ First stop: Borough Market. No trip to London is complete without a visit here, especially when it involves chocolate strawberries. Yep, Jenson indulged in those decadent delights before setting off on our sightseeing spree.

Checked into our hotel (because, well, rest is important when you're walking that much! And we wanted to dump the bags) then strolled over Tower Bridge, amzing Bridge, dont ever remember crossing this bridge even when I worked in London daily.

Next up was a five-hour deep dive into history at the Tower of London. We used an awesome audio guide (shoutout to Jenson for being the perfect tour buddy!) Great for keepong Jenson engaged, as he could move a learn and not have to stand and read. It’s the perfect way for young energetic explorers to learn about knights, prisoners, and royal secrets without losing interest.

We learned about the Tower’s wild past — lions, tigers, bears (oh my!), and all sorts of animals that once called it home. We also uncovered some fascinating stories about prisoners held here, including Guy Fawkes, who was famously questioned in the Tower, and Anne Boleyn, who met her end here.

Jewels, Armor, and Prison Graffiti

Then, we wandered into the Crown Jewels — wowza! The sparkle and grandeur were just jaw-dropping. We checked out suits of armor, the line of kings, and even saw some of the earliest "artistic expressions" — prisoners' graffiti etched into the walls. Talk about leaving your

Did you know the Tower is home to ravens? Yep, those legendary birds are on-site, watched over by the Yeoman Warders, or "Beefeaters" — part of the Tower’s living history.

A Modern Twist: Uber Boats and Art Trails

To mix things up, we caught an Uber boat (who knew that was even a thing?) down the Thames to Canary Wharf. The art trail there was longer than we expected, but it was worth every step. After that, we hopped on the tube back to London Bridge, where the walk back to our hotel felt endless — but hey, it’s all part of the adventure!

Finally, after a super-long day of exploring, we collapsed into our beds, exhausted but happy. London, you’ve officially stolen our hearts — and maybe a few chocolate strawberries too!

Would you like me to make it even more playful or add any specific details?

🚴‍♂️Cycling🚴‍♂️

Wednesday 6th Aug
Another slow day today for the 5th August.

We got out and managed 3.7 mile on the bike.

🌩THE DAY THE WEATHER CAME🌬

Wednesday 6th Aug
So its the 4th August (yes I am running behind again) and the day was shocking for weather and we were still recovery from our 24 hour trip 2 days ago. 😴🥱

Windy and raining for most of the day, so late afternoon we took to the exercise bike to cycle the mile.

😴Exhaustion fighting💤

Sunday 3rd Aug
Well after a 1am arrival home no one really startrf moving till lunchtime and then  it was only from the bed to the sofa. Recovery from our epic day trip  was really needed.

We all kept yawning the day away 🥱

By 8pm we gained enough energy to walk the mile needed and that is all we did. 🚶‍♂️

Roll on tomorrow where will be much brighter and far more energetic.

🎢DAY 2 EPIC DAY TRIP🎡

Sunday 3rd Aug

Wow what a day.

What do you get when you mix a 2am wake up call, a 6am flight to Cologne, and a theme park that looks amazing. Phantasialand was outstanding. You get us the Mahoney family being mad having an epic memory making day thats what.

It was visually great but also had so much immersive experiences. First up the swing ride with sneaky water fountains that had everyone lifting their feet in panic - except Jenson, who was actively trying to get soaked. Classic Jenson.

Then came the 3d mouse-chasing ride where we shot dough balls and chocolate icing (yes really). Garry took the crown with Jenson hot on his heals.🐭🍫🍩

We zigzagged through lands like Rockburgh, Berlin, Mexico, Deep in Africa, Fantasy, Mystery, and China Town each wonderfully presented and impressive.

Jenson's fave? The crazy bats VR rollercoater. He loved it. I hated it. Garry's headset had no sound  so he just got surprise bats doing weird stuff. 🦇🤣.

By 3pm, Jenson decided that backwards and upside down rides were a no go. Having waited in a queue for 45 minutes to have to walk through without riding due to this panic that had set in. Garry rode Jenson and I rushed down to watch him. Not ideal in a theme park, but thankfully Phantasialand is more than just rollercoasters and was really an immersive experience

The Fly coaster through a hotel was incredible. The Mad house in China Town had me convinced we'd flipped upside down (spoiler: it was the room, not us).🤯
We wrapped up with the fun house where we laughed so much - moving floors, spinning tunnels, staircases that had a mind of their own, and a slide that was way faster than expected (think 1980s metal park slides, minus the burns).🤣

After an Uber dash to the airport  and a slightly delayed flight we stumbled through the door at 1am - exhausted but buzzing. And guess what we clocked 5.4 miles and 19711 steps great for the fundraiser challenge.

Was it tiring? Absolutely. Was it worth it? 100%. Would we do it again? You bet - especially with another epic day trip planned later this month (fingers crossed Jenson's rollercoaster nerves chill out by then).

🎉Day One: Warming Up for the big Adventure!

Sunday 3rd Aug

Hey all I am running behind on updates on our mile a day challenge.

So here is the 1st of August blog post from our fundraising page.

So its the 1st of August and the official kick - off of our fundraising extravagnaza! 🎈 But let's be honest-today was less about raising funds and more about raising our energy levels for the epic adventure we're diving into tomorrow (2nd August, mark your calanders).
While young Jenson enjoyed a blissfully relaxing day, I was in the trenches - wrapping up my last day of work before two weeks of glorious chaos. 💻
But come late afternoon, we both emerged into the garden like heros in training. Our mission? To conquer the mighty mile 🏃⚽️🏓
Jenson of course smashed it - football, skipping, table tennis-you name it, he did it. Meanwhile, I attempted skipping.....and lets just say, if skipping were an Olympic sport, I'd be representing Team Awkward 🤣
We laughed, we sweated, we skipped (some of us more gracefully than others), and we ticked off our first mile with style and giggles.
Tomorrow, the real adventure begins. But today? Was about fun, family and failing arms in the name of a good cause.à

🏊‍♂️🚴‍♂️Mission August: Jenson v's The Screens!⛹️‍♂️🤸‍♂️

Thursday 31st Jul
This August, Jenson and I are on a mission - and its not just to dodge the xbox, VR headset, and every other glowing screen in sight. We're taking on a challenge thats close to our hearts, and we'd love your support.
To keep Jenson active and inspired we've set two goals: one for reading, and one for moving! The plan? At least 1 kilometre a day - walking, swimming, cycling and anything that involves movement - and hopefully a few epic day trips to supercharge our total distance.
Even better we're doing it all to raise money for YOUNG LIVES VS CANCER, a charity that means a lot to us. Jenson's already declared he's going to smash the target, so we're rolling into August with trainers on, water bottles filled, and a big dose of determination.
If you'd like to cheer us on with a donation no matter the size, we'd be incredibly grateful. Every penny helps make a difference.
