About the challenge

What is the challenge?

add remove
Thousands of supporters are taking on the Walk 80 Miles Challenge for Young Lives vs Cancer this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

They are getting on their walking boots and walking 80 miles between the 1-30 September to raise funds to support children and young people with cancer.

Why 80 miles?

Young cancer patients face an 80 mile round trip, on average, to get treatment. This isn't by choice. Many young cancer patients have to travel to specialist cancer centres to get the care they need, they can't just go to their local hospital. Not only is this physically and emotionally exhausting, it comes with a huge financial cost too. It costs £255 a month when treatment is at its most intense. As treatment can go on for years, young people and families are often plunged into debt.

That's why this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we're asking our supporters to walk 80 miles in September and raise money for children and young people with cancer.

About Fundraising

How do I collect donations?

add remove

You will automatically be set up with a fundraiser when you sign up. You can also select to set up a Facebook Fundraiser and connect it to your main fundraising page. These are the easiest ways to collect your sponsorship. All donations come directly to Young Lives vs Cancer, so you don’t have to worry about admin or bank transfers.

You can also fundraise offline. You will also receive a Young Lives vs Cancer sponsorship form with your laces. This can also be found in the Resources tab. To pay this in, deposit your sponsorship raised into your own bank account and then pay it directly onto your fundraising page. Alternatively, there are handy instructions on the form of how to pay this in on our website.

Is there a fundraising target?

add remove

We simply just ask everyone to raise as much as they can to support children and young people with cancer. The target is automatically set to £150, as people with higher targets on their pages raise the most.  However, there is no commitment to raise this.
