Why I’m taking on 5k a Day in June for Young Lives vs Cancer!

We lost our beautiful, brave daughter Lola at the age of 16 in July 2025 to a rare childhood brain tumour (DIPG).

Young Lives vs Cancer supported Lola and us as a family during her illness and help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. They were there for us when we were 'blue lighted' up to Bristol Children's Hospital when Lola suddenly became seriously ill and provided a room in one of their homes for Justin to stay close by to the hospital when I was staying in the hospital with Lola (as Justin wasn't able to stay in the hospital as well), they also provided a room in one of their houses for us all to stay in close to the Children's Hospital when Lola had to return for several weeks of radiotherapy in April last year.

Rachel, Lola's wonderful YL vs C Specialist Social Worker met with her weekly to do crafts and just to chat, she was someone Lola was able to talk to about her worries that she didn't feel comfortable talking to us about.

After losing Lola, Rachel continues to keep in touch even giving us all the most beautiful gift of silver pendants with Lola's fingerprint on that they had made together for us. Their support over the last couple of years is why I want do do this challenge.

I’ll be completing 5k every day from 1st to 30th June to help raise vital funds for children and young people with cancer. I'm hoping to run some of it but can't promise, it'll probably be more walking than running!

Every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Please make a donation and show your support today.

Half way there!

Monday 15th Jun

I can't believe that am already half way there with the challenge! I've really enjoyed it and it gives me an excuse to get out and about and also to share photos on Facebook of our darling Lola. Together so far we have raised £1089 which is incredible - so thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. If you haven't yet donated please do so by 18th June and all donations made between today and 18th will be doubled by Young Lives v Cancer which is amazing. Today's photo is our gorgeous Lola with her lovely brother Finley although sadly it was taken when Lola hadn't long been diagnosed and we were home from Bristol I do love this photo - Fins took her out for a treat in his car for an ice cream at Boscawen Park - he nearly fainted when he found out how much the ice creams were but they did both pick the biggest ones!

I've received my tshirt now and start the challenge on Monday - its come round really quickly and I cannot believe how much money has been donated, thank you so so much to everyone who has donated in memory of our wonderful Lola.

I am going to try to post on my Facebook daily where I have been that day on my 5K and how I am getting on.
