I'm taking on Challenge 80 for Young Lives vs Cancer.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I'm taking on Challenge 80 for Young Lives vs Cancer.

I will be completing 80 miles in September to support children and young people with cancer.

80 miles is the average journey that a family facing cancer has to travel from home to a specialist treatment centre. And now, with the rise in cost of living, families are struggling more than ever before to find the money to make the journey. Then there’s the parking payments, overnight stays and finding food, all while income is reduced. Because working full time and looking after your child with cancer is almost impossible.

Young Lives vs Cancer help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. Make a donation and show your support today.

  • £12 could re-stock the kitchen cupboards at a Home from Home so a family can enjoy a home-cooked meal together with their loved ones.
  • £26 could pay for an hour with a Young Lives vs Cancer Specialist Social Worker. They help families understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer.
  • £70 could pay for a night in a Young Lives vs Cancer Homes from Home, a free place for families to stay close to specialist hospitals when their child is going through treatment, keeping families together

Join me in supporting a good cause, your contribution will make a big impact, whether you donate £5 or £500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support.

My Updates

Lexi Mae

Sunday 10th Aug

🧡 where it all began …

I took Lexi to see the GP after having what I thought was cold / flu like symptoms to be told that she had tonsillitis. We were giving amoxicillin to clear any lasting symptoms. After we finished the course of antibiotics Lexi seemed to have got better in herself but was still covered in a viral rash down her arms, legs & on her face.

I still wasn’t happy so I sent photos into the GP to be given cream to stop any irritation/itchiness (which she didn’t have).

2 weeks later lexi was still not herself and her temperature had spiked to 40.4 and had been sick which in my opinion means A&E.

I called 111 and they called us out an ambulance due to lexis age.

The paramedics checked Lexi over, her temp had come right down so the paramedics put the temp and sickness down to having this viral thing still. They offered for me to go to hospital with her but they were also happy if I was to just contact my GP if I had anymore concerns. So they went on their way as she seemed to be ok.

Few weeks had passed the rash was very faintly still there but I started to notice bruising one lexis legs back and hand, at first I though when the hell had she hurt herself, nothing had happened that I could say and I hadn’t had any calls from nursery to say she had hurt herself so I kind of just poo pooed it. Days went passed and more and more where appearing so I decided to take Lexi to the GP again. My first thought was they are going to think I’m abusing my child, but I didn’t actually care I knew I wasn’t and the bruises weren’t normal to have this many and all looking very Similar, something was just not sitting right with me, so off went went paranoid mother back to the GP.

Doctor said normal looking bruises nothing to worry about and I did the right thing by bringing her in.

I went away feeling very silly but still not happy with what was going on. So I did the stupidest thing I googled bruising on the skin in children.

AND OF CORSE … leukaemia came up, I thought no way could it be that, if you Google head ache you’ve got a brain tumour no bloody way could it be that.

Any way the day after I saw the doctor my actual GP phoned me and said, could I come in with lexi so she could check her over make sure she is better and the antibiotics had worked and what not.

So off we went AGIAN, checked her over, took her temperature which was high, she could see Lexi wasn’t very well as she still had the rash.

She told me not to panic and that her feelings is potentially meningitis.

Of corse that was a shock, and I didn’t know what to think as I don’t really know to much about it.

They blue lighted us up to the royal Surrey, where we were seen by the

Paediatrician I told them the full story of the tonsillitis, antibiotics, bruises and so on… they did some blood tests and at around 3.00am is when my life got flipped upside down …

The words “I’m really sorry but Lexi has leukaemia” “it’s a type of blood cancer” those words, literally ripped my heart out of my chest. It’s the words no parent wants to hear.

My world that night ended as I new it and a new normal had started to take its place.

Since then life has been hectic, draining, emotional and so many other emotions, but we will fight we will beat this and everything will go back to the way it was before for my little family. 🧡💪🏼🙏🏼

One year on after ringing the bell Lexi Mae is starting to live her childhood as she should be. We fight another day.
