Support my World Cancer Day Dip

I'm taking on a Cold Water Dip Challenge for Young Lives vs Cancer this World Cancer Day. Join me in supporting a good cause and your contribution will make a big impact to children and young people with cancer. Whether you donate £5 or £500, every little bit helps. Thank you for your support.

Children and young people with cancer are facing a hard winter. Instead of making precious memories with their family, treatment means that they’re facing weeks spent many miles from home.

But cancer doesn’t have to mean families are torn apart. That special moments are lost. You can keep families together this winter.

£26 could pay for an hour of support from a Young Lives vs Cancer social worker, so that children and young people with cancer, and their families, get the right care and support at the right time

£70 could pay for a night in a Young Lives vs Cancer Homes from Home, a free place for families to stay close to specialist hospitals when their child is going through treatment, keeping families together

Friday 6th Feb
Hi, my name is Margaret, better know as Magz. In Oct 2023 at the age of 40, i found a lump in my left breast and went and got it checked out. Not long after some appointments and tests, i was diagnosed with stage 3 Invasive Ductal breast cancer.
It was a major shock to the system as, a single mum of two teenage kids 18 & 15. I had also just took on the care of my 18 month old granddaughter.
But i couldn't fall apart, i had to be strong and face it head on for the sake of myself and loved ones. To be honest it all felt like a dream, like i was living two lives.
On the 12th Dec 2023 i underwent major surgery, a full left mastectomy/lymph node removal and reconstruction using my stomach tissue. It went well but, was a long recovery which, i managed with the help of my friends and family.
On the 31st January 2024, in the midst of recovery my oldest son, my granddaughters dad, had an accident at work and was lucky to survive. I couldn't be with him as, i was at a hospital and my immune system was non-existent.
I began to feel like the world was against me somehow but, i couldn't give up my children needed me.
I had to battle on through as, i required preventative treatment due to my type of cancer; chemotherapy, radiotherapy, followed by injections and medication for the next 10yrs.
They said they got all the cancer out in surgery and, that one of the lymph nodes they removed tested positive for cancer so, it had already started to spread.
My life changed forever the day i was diagnosed!!
I'm not the same young, averagely fit person i used to be and may never be. I had to give up my work as an ASN teaching assistant due to no longer being physically fit for the role.
My son recovered from his work accident however, is now permanently disabled due to nerve damage. My granddaughter has been with me through it all and shall remain with me.
I certainly look at life differently now and i am grateful for each and every day as, i am still here, with my loved ones.
Each and every person who battles with cancer have their own story and some are still fighting, some have lost the fight, some are in remission and live with the fear of recurrance.
I did this fundraiser for myself and all those warriors past and present. I am fortunate that i was able to do so and, rope my close friend Debbie and my oldest son, Dylan into doing it with me.
They say every little helps, i sure hope this does.
I am grateful for my medical team and to all my family and friends for their support at such a difficult time in my life.
I am thankful for every donation made, it is very much appreciated.
And, if you made it this far, thanks for listening to my story on why i chose to do this challenge!! Xx
Special shout out to Debbie and Dylan.......we smahed it!!!💪🥰💝
