When Your Child’s World Changes in a Moment

On 5 September, our family’s life changed completely when our little girl, Sayuni, had a serious accident after falling from her scooter. She was taken to hospital and, after investigations, we were given the devastating news that she had suffered a serious pancreatic injury.

Since then, our days have been filled with hospital rooms, medical discussions, uncertainty and fear. Sayuni has been in hospital for more than two weeks, and her treatment has become increasingly complex. She is now facing major surgery, including a laparotomy, and the doctors are carefully planning the best treatment for her.

As parents, it is incredibly difficult to see your child going through pain and medical procedures. There are moments when we feel frightened and overwhelmed, but we are trying to remain strong for her and take each day as it comes.

We are deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses and everyone who has supported Sayuni throughout this difficult journey. Their kindness and dedication have meant so much to our family.

We are sharing our story with Young Lives vs Cancer because we hope it may help other families who suddenly find themselves facing a frightening and uncertain time with their child. No parent expects their child to become seriously ill or injured, and having the right emotional and practical support can make an enormous difference.

Our biggest wish is simple: to see our little girl healthy, smiling and back home with her family.
