I'm walking 60 miles for Young Lives vs Cancer.
I'm taking on the 60 mile Wag n Walk Challenge for Young Lives vs Cancer. I will be walking 60 miles in October to support children and young people with cancer.
Young Lives vs Cancer help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Make a donation today to show your support.
- £26 could pay for 1 hours of a Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker's time. They help children and young people to understand and cope with the emotional, practical and financial effects of cancer, throughout treatment and beyond.
- £70 could pay for a night in a Young Lives vs Cancer Homes from Home, a free place for families to stay close to specialist hospitals when their child is going through treatment, keeping families together
Join me in supporting a good cause, your contribution will make a big impact, whether you donate £5 or £500. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support.

Day 18
Saturday 18th Oct The redemption arc has begun. Past 2 days alone we've done over 7 miles, if we keep up this pace we'll have time to spare. So it turns out he loves walking through all the dry leaves on the path. He smelt something he liked in one mound of them, I had to physically drag him away....
We've officially crossed the halfway point, it been a rollercoaster of emotions with Ham being ill in the first half and not knowing if he'd be alright let alone do this challenge. But he is back to fighting fit and I.... am also here 😐 The end is still a way away but we can do this 😊
My feet hurt so much....

Day 17
Friday 17th Oct We've had the last 4/5 days off dealing with Ham's fat face. It's looking like it's an abscess as it burst.....everywhere.....He's been to the vet, they sorted out as much as they can and now he is back to his old self 😊 Still on medication to deal with it but on the other side of it all now 😁
With that. It's time to finish this! We've got 14 days to walk 35 miles. Challenge just got harder as we need 2.5 miles a day just to keep on track. He is ready and near 100% again so it starts tonight! I'm gonna have Deb plan the routes, every time she plans one we end up doing 3-4 miles so should be a cake walk 🤣 Share

Day 12
Sunday 12th Oct So we've been quiet the past 2 days. The short answer is we didn't go for a walk so nothing to post about.... the long answer...We noticed a lump swelling on the side of Hamlets mouth about 2 weeks ago. We weren't concerned but thought best to take him to the vet, get it checked. The vet found a second lump in his neck. They told us to keep an eye on him and if things got worse to get back in, otherwise here's some doggy painkillers for him.
The lumps both ballooned to the point he looked like he'd had a stroke. They're the wrong side fortunately but yeah, he's not having a good time. We've been in contact again, they said he seems OK in himself but they wanna see him again Monday.
His face seems to have gone down a bit now so we are going out tonight but yeah just thought I'd update people. Sorry for the more serious post but I felt it needed to be mentioned
Anyways, we got lossed time to catch up on, as long as he wants to continue.....THEN WE SHALL CONTINUE! 📣📣

Day 9
Thursday 9th Oct We're back at it. Another beautiful evening for it as well 😊It was actually nice to get back to it and Hamlets massive grin does make it all worth while 😁

Day 8
Wednesday 8th Oct Took today off as he looks tired and sore..... Ok I'm the one who's tired and sore but I'm using him as my excuse 🤣
Day 7
Wednesday 8th Oct We've hit a week! 🎉 Only 3 more to go... 🙃We went to Woliton Park with the household today. It was a really nice day and even though we went to wrong way, it worked out as it added distance to the walk 👍 Oh and he's got a new brace as his old one decided to fall apart apparently.
He tried to get in the lake, talk to the ducks and wanted to meet the deer but all in all a good day. He also wanted to drink the puddles....
Hamlet was wiped out by the end of it, made for a quiet ride back home. Added another 4ish miles to the total so ahead of schedule now 😁 I feel a day off coming 😀 Share

Day 6
Monday 6th Oct It's slowly becoming a family affair 😌 Both Deb and Eianthé joins us today for a nice chill walk. It was nice to start the walk at a more reasonable time, around half 8 we started and we were back home just before quarter to 10 with a Chinese following close behind 😁 This is becoming less about weight loss and more surviving till the end 🤣He did seem a little less active today but he had the vets earlier so probably wondering why he's going out twice. Vets said he's the perfect weight and we should up his calories if he's doing these walks.... sounds like he's made that up. Deb says it's true, I'm not convinced 🤔

Day 4/5
Monday 6th Oct Two updates in 1 today. Missed the past few as I've been working all day, doing the walk and passing out. Deb joined me and Ham on both days, well nights..... starting day 4 at 11:30pm and day 5 at 10:20pm.There is something very peaceful about walking at that time. Also it's alot easier when someone comes along with us. As much as me and Ham chat on the walk, it feels very one sided 🤣 We had a bit of rain day 4 but nothing like day 3 so it was fine, clear skies yesterday which was lovely.
Tracked just over 2 miles on both days so it's looking like we're gonna beat this challenge early... or we can rest one day next week, probably that I'll be honest 😁 He has a vet appointment today so he's not gonna be happy about that but he seems to still be enjoying this whole thing, thought he'd would've had enough by now but no 🙂 Planning on a trip to Woliton Park tomorrow if the weather holds up, hopefully gonna get alot of miles in there 😁 Share

Day 3
Friday 3rd Oct The day I feared is here....doing the walk after 9 hours at work, in the wet and dark. He still seemed excited to go so we weren't stopping because of that, he was perfectly happy until the rain. Oh did it rain... Turns out his collar runs when it gets wet so he has a nice green ring around him 🤣 Collars in the tumble, along with my hoodie and cap. Now he's flat out and I plan on joining him. Just over 2 miles added tonight, I can't wait till I have enough distance to take a day off....Share

Day 2
Thursday 2nd Oct So apparently day 2 is worse than day 1... At least my shift changed to an earlier one so we didn't have to do it in the dark. We did 2.09 miles today so still looking good. Hoping to get some distance in the bank ready for the inevitable days when the rain in non stop. Started strong again, for some reason he seemed less eager for today's walk 🤣 Oh and I'm the one with the limp now to that's fun 😐... Share
It begins...
Wednesday 1st Oct The day is here. Time to start this challenge strong... We went for a long walk around to neighborhood, thought it'd be best to stay close to home incase either of us collapsed 🤣 Did just over 2.5 miles so tracking ahead of schedule from the get go 😁🙃 He was knackered after about 15 minutes and he started to fake a limp after 20, he does this, but once he realised that no one was paying attention he stopped. All together it took us about an 1hour 30min so not to bad personally. Feeling good after day 1, we'll see how I feel when I'm doing it after work tomorrow.... Share
The pre-blog
Wednesday 1st Oct I signed up to this thinking "I'm a 32 year old fat guy with a 10 year old tubby dog, if anything it'll help both of us lose a bit of wait and they say walks are good for you mentally aswell so it'll be all good". Now I'm here, I've realised to scale of it... just under 2 miles a day to stay on track. Mistakes were made. After a 12 hour working day the last thing I'm gonna want to do is go for an hour long walk.... but oh well. I made my bed time to lay in it... what could possibly go wrong ShareThank you to my Sponsors
