I’m taking on 5k a Day in June for Young Lives vs Cancer.

I’ll be completing 5k every day from 1st to 30th June to help raise vital funds for children and young people with cancer.

Young Lives vs Cancer help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Make a donation and show your support today.

Just a £26 donation could fund an hour of support from a Young Lives vs Cancer specialist social worker, ensuring children, young people and families always have someone by their side throughout their cancer journey.

Thank you for your support.

Why I Am Taking on 5K a Day in June for Young Lives vs Cancer

Sunday 31st May

Cancer is not just another disease to me. It is something that has touched almost every aspect of my life, both as a medical doctor and as a family member.

Throughout my medical career, I have cared for many patients living with cancer. I have sat with individuals and families as they received life changing diagnoses. I have seen the heartbreak of patients presenting late because they were unaware of the warning signs or could not access screening services. I have witnessed families struggle to afford treatment, sometimes having to make impossible decisions between financial survival and life saving care.

These experiences have left a lasting impression on me. They have shown me that early detection, timely intervention, and access to quality treatment can make the difference between life and death.

Cancer's impact on my life is also deeply personal.

Over the years, I have lost family members and friends to cancer, including an uncle who died from liver cancer. Each loss has been a painful reminder of the devastating toll this disease continues to take on individuals, families, and communities.

By God's grace, another family member was lucky to have her cancer detected early and treated successfully. Her experience reinforced what I have seen repeatedly in clinical practice: early diagnosis and prompt treatment save lives.

These personal and professional experiences are why I have decided to take on the challenge of completing 5K every day throughout June in support of Young Lives vs Cancer.

Young people diagnosed with cancer face challenges that extend far beyond their medical treatment. They and their families often encounter emotional, financial, educational, and social difficulties while navigating one of the most difficult periods of their lives. Organisations like Young Lives vs Cancer provide vital support, helping young people and their families access the care, guidance, and practical assistance they need.

I would be grateful if you could support this effort. Whether your contribution is £5, £50, £500, or simply sharing this appeal with others, every act of support brings us closer to helping young people and families facing cancer.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
